The Body’s Amazing Ability To Heal Itself!

Bumped into a friend in the supermarket Wednesday morning who commented on how I seemed so positive even with a broken arm.   My excitement at demonstrating my ability to do 'dolphin pose'  in the pet food aisle in the Co op made one shopper want to join in our conversion.  Two crazy,  wonderful ladies became three 😃.   I have laughed so much more about life since the fall, it really was a wake up jolt!    After the initial "Oh my life that hurt!"  Followed by "I could have broken my wrists!" I almost  immediately  felt an awareness that my head had been somewhere else and boom I was present in that moment feeling a whole heap of gratitude and joy for just being.  It's funny how life throws you a curved ball sometimes!  😉

upload.jpg

Euphoria was soon replaced by pain and oh boy did my arm hurt,  yep I cried!  A lot! But my smile has grown as my body has healed giving me  back a bit more of my mobility and freedom 😍 daily. I have iced, oiled reiki'd and stretched my elbow, forearm and wrist, I've been unwound, had awesome healing from a friend and fellow therapist and it's paying off as my body is responding so incredibly well to all the positive attention it's receiving.

I'd say I'm 90% better which is awesome after just three weeks and I know the healing continues!

Keep smiling?

I WILL BE BACK BEFORE YOU KNOW IT!

😆

Feeling a little broken!

Sorry folks,  I'm going to be out of action for a few weeks!  As whilst out enjoying the Spring splender,  I slipped on some mud and cracked the head of my radius (elbow).  So heaps of ice, healing oils, balms and a trip to the fracture clinic on Monday for me.

I recall listening to Charlotte Gerson sharing her tale of her miraculous recovery from a broken hip that she sustained in her 80's. Charlotte increased her intake of raw, fresh organic veggies and watched her body heal.

“LET FOOD BE THY MEDICINE AND MEDICINE BE THY FOOD.” Hippocrates

So with a fridge full off veggies and suppliments and armed with my box of magic essential oils,  #Spiezia balms  and help from our wonderful medical staff at Barnstaple  I say "Let the healing commence!"

I will keep you all updated!

If you are visiting Court Farm Holidays and would like a treatment  please make contact as I have some great therapist buddies on hand 😉 to iron out the tension and soothe the stress.

Happy Easter guys!

All love

Spiezia 100% Organic Made For Life Relax Rejuvenating Uplifting Facial

Spiezia 100 % Organic Relax & Rejuvenate Uplifting Facial

A Natural Non Surgical Face Lift

A truly organic facial combining Spiezia 100% Organic skincare range with  Ayurvedic (Indian) and Anma (Japanese) massage techniques, which promote the free flow of blood and nutrients to facial skin.  Targeting the connective tissue which lies beneath the skin this naturally uplifting acupressure facial helps to release tension and smooth out fine lines, leaving the face and neck feeling fresh, invigorated and supple.

My client Mrs B is a retired 69 year old living in a coastal town in Cornwall.  After a busy life working and raising her family she now enjoys her garden and her daily dog walks along the coastal paths.  As an outdoor person she has exposed her skin to the sun and often harsh Cornish weather which although invigorating isn’t that kind on the skin.  She has a sensitive constitution with numerous allergies especially to pollen which effects her eyes leaving them feeling swollen, red and sore.  As an asthmatic she is prone to chest complaints and has recently stopped smoking.

At the commencement of treatments she didn’t have a specific facial routine in place and would consider her health to be generally good.

My clients skin appears to be normal to dry.  She has swelling under and around the eyes with sagging to eye lids with quite pronounced laughter lines around mouth and age spots on cheeks especially the left.

Client B’s treatment plan involves weekly treatments for 6 weeks combined with a facial and acupressure routine to be done daily at home.  Aim of treatment to improve tone and condition of skin, reduce swelling especially

around the eyes from allergies and if possible improve signs of aging i.e wrinkles and age spots.

As you will see from the photos the appearance of the skin after the first treatment wasn’t that different but as the weeks have passed the results have been quite amazing.  The skin is looking more toned, less lined her jaw line is more defined the bagging around and under the eyes has reduced and the colour of her skin has changed taking on a more healthy glow.  I love the way my client appears to be so happy in each of the after shots her eyes seem to sparkle and look noticeably less puffy.  My client has commented on how her whole face feels lifted and toned but the most benefit she has gained is in the reduction of the swelling around her eyes and the improvement in her sinuses which drain really well with this facial.  Having  a home care routine in place, which my client is diligently adhering too is helping her to maintain this healthy glow.  Mrs B loves her Spiezia products and seems equally frilled with the results which I believe speak  for themselves.

Salvestrol Cream

In February 2013 an area on my face that had been crusting over and then turning light brown in colour did something a bit nasty.  The area initially began to tingle and itch and within a week it had doubled in size getting quite angry and red.  Picture below.  I had a sense it wasn't normal and took myself off to see my GP.

Unfortunately my usual doctor was on holiday but the Doctor standing in was a skin specialist, so I figured I was in good hands!   After a very quick consultation with the doctor he agreed something was indeed going on but assured me that he thought it was nothing serious but recommended I saw a dermatologist.  My intuition was saying "Don't wait,  don't leave it, go get another opinion." especially given how quickly it seemed to be growing.  I promptly went home rang a few colleagues and booked myself an appointment with a Naturopathic doctor.

Fortunately I discovered an amazing local Naturopath who'd trained as a medical doctor.  After a very thorough examination and consultation she agreed my skin was behaving abnormally and recommended a complete diet change.  My new diet being 60 to 80% organic vegetable based and mostly raw, no processed foods, no refined sugar a whole host of  natural suppliments, probiotics and the application of Salvestrols several times a day.

SPIEZIA IN CORNWALL | VICKY BARNES

Naturall Holistic Treatments and Therapies

1. How long has your business been in existence?  What was the inspiration for you to set up?

This will be my 9th year in business at Court Farm Holidays in Marhamchurch near Bude, Cornwall.  I had not long qualified as a reflexologist when the owner offered me a small room from which I could practise.  In truth, my only inspiration or desire at that time was to be  financially independent and sharing something I loved, little did I realise how much I'd enjoy learning and developing new skills!

As the treatments I was able to offer grew, my services became increasingly more popular, to the point where it was felt I needed an upgrade on my very basic space and so my room was created.  So in truth, just like my career move into holistic's, my room found me and if you believe in destiny then most probably I was destined to be here doing what I do and sharing what I share.

 2. What attracted you to the Spiezia – Made for Life brand? How does it fit with your values as a business?

My business was starting to take off and I was doing a lot of massage which was fairly heavy going on my body. I knew I couldn't sustain that level of demand indefinitely so contemplated on what a solution might look like.  That's when I came across an old Spiezia  brochure in the electric cupboard that a previous therapist had left behind. Intrigued, I flicked through the pages but feeling safe with what I knew, I carried on for another season offering massage after massage not realising the Universe was trying to offer me a solution.  With my new room complete and my thoughts focused on developing a gentler way of working, the name Spiezia repeatedly popped into my head it got louder and louder until I recall shouting out "OKAY! I get it! I'll call!". I did and I'm so glad I did!  Within seconds of speaking to Jo I knew I was being taken care of and placed my opening order and agreed to a week of spa training.  I love Spiezia's ethos of using only 100% organic natural products that are kind to us and to the environment.  I love that all the products look and smell so damn good! I love that each treatment is holistically inspired with the emphasis very much focused on balancing and nurturing, whilst gently supporting the recipient through a healing journey. There's a lot to love about this product and the wonderful people that produce it!

3. What are the current trends within your business? How much change have you seen?

Whilst I feel the larger spa facilities are great for days out with the girls or winding down with the hubby, independent therapists like myself that offer bespoke sessions that are very much tailored to the individual needs of a client will always appeal to those that appreciate a more personalised service.  I also feel that humanity is beginning to acknowledge that our bodies are exposed to far too many chemicals and pollutants and that most people truly desire a cleaner healthier lifestyle for themselves and their loved ones - cleaner air, cleaner energy, cleaner food and cleaner cosmetics!  I believe this is the reason there has been such an increase in demand for natural, transparent, safe and nourishing skincare products.  An appealing combination!

4. What is your customers’ favourite Spiezia treatment?

Personally, I feel that all the Spiezia treatments have been so lovingly created that you'd be very happy to receive any one of them! However, a firm favourite at Court Farm a Holidays is Relax into Radiance.

5. How important is it that the customers understand the brands/products and techniques used in the spa?

It is essential!  As knowledge and understanding of how our skin works and absorbs products and most importantly, a further explanation of the ingredients used and the reasoning behind their use enables the recipient to make informed choices.

Sharing is most definitely caring!

6. What are the five key values within your business?

'TREAT'

Tailor-made

Relaxing

Environmental

Atmospheric

Therapeutic

7. How do you set yourself and what you offer apart from others?

The World can seem a crazy place full of demands and pressures that seem to separate us from that state of just 'being'.  A state, in which we can truly live as our authentic selves and at peace with others. With this in mind my focus is not on what's different or sets me apart from others but what unites me and providing a space where others can hopefully envelope themselves in that beautiful gorgeous juicy state.

8. What stands out for you about Spiezia Organics – Made for Life products compared to other brands?

There are a number of skincare companies focusing their energies on producing natural organic and environmentally sound products but for me very few include, not only their ingredients but their containers and packaging as well.

Spiezia really care about their environmental footprint so they get the thumbs up from me.

9. What is your customer profile? How much business is repeat business?

Male, female, 20 to 80 years of age mostly guests at the complex although I do have a loyal local client base as well.  Court Farm is very popular with it's guests, some of whom return several times a year.   Most have young families, so my on site room is very popular for parents wanting to enjoy some pampering without having to leave the complex.  I also have some clients who've had holiday homes in Bude for generations who look me up when they are in the area. Folk often say they'd like to take me home with them.  So should I disappear, it's most likely because I've been kidnapped!

10. What does the future hold for you and the business?

I really don't have any major plans only to continue loving what I do and sharing what love.  Although, I do love learning and deepening my understanding of the human body and mind so I'm sure my future won't be dull or without movement.

11. What do you enjoy in your spare time? How do you relax?

That's easy #YOGA!  I absolutely love yoga and how practising it makes me feel physically, emotionally and psychologically.  Yoga has become a fundamental part of my life during the last couple of years, to the point where I feel I am ready to develop my own self practise further by studying a foundation course with BWY.   I can't recommend yoga highly enough.  It's a great way to maintain mobility, flexibility but most importantly, for me it helps to calm, relax and restore a feeling of inner peace and personal wellbeing.   Alongside yoga I enjoy being outside so walking, cycling, campervaning, gardening and beach combing.  As long as I'm in nature I'm a very happy bunny!

12. Name your three favourite things in life.

Love, laughter and sharing in all it's forms :-) I love life!

Psoriasis Scalp Treatment

Originally published: Feb 11 2015.

I developed psoriasis in my mid twenties not long after the birth of my second daughter. Although not life threatening, the combination of swollen joints (Psoriatic arthritis) and red, weepy, flaky and often very sore skin left me feeling incredibly depressed. It’s also worth mentioning that my digestive system was also struggling. I was in a bit of a pickle to be honesty and sadly Allopathic medicine really couldn’t offer me very much in the way of treatment. Within months my whole scalp, ears, forehead and probably 10 to 15% of my body were covered in psoriasis lesions. I had arthritis in my hands and knees and was feeling very sorry for myself. The creams the GP suggested had no effect what so ever and the shampoos only seemed to make my scalp worse. I needed help!

Someone suggested I contact a lady in Exeter called Sheila Tozer, a Chinese herbalist and acupuncturist. She was amazing! I did everything she suggested and more I gave up all refined foods especially sugar, wheat and replaced cows milk with goats and I started exercising. Sheila administered herbs which supported my liver and gave me monthly acupuncture sessions the combination of which made a noticeable difference to my condition. Within 18 months I was able to stop the monthly sessions as my body was almost completely free of any psoriasis.

I’m not cured but I know I have the tools to manage my condition without taking any prescribed medication. I try to keep my diet healthy I exercise regularly and I practise yoga and meditation to manage my stress levels. So for the best part I am free form psoriasis the only area I really can struggle with managing is my scalp and that is why I wanted to share this very easy and for me effective method of soothing and reducing the plaque build up on my head.

Firstly I massage 10 mls of Spiezia Head and Hair oil into my scalp. This normally takes me 10 mins as I like to give my scalp a good massage. I then wrap my head in a cotton scarf and leave the oil in my hair over night. In the morning I wash my hair with shampoo (Faith in Nature) followed by a rinse of apple cider vinegar (organic with mother) 10 mls in about a litre of warm water. I always dry my hair with a dryer as my psoriasis seems to be worse if left moist. My scalp can benefit from this simple procedure for up to a month. Please note you could substitute the Spiezia oil for coconut oil or almond oil but I personally prefer the results of the Head in Hair oil.

I have plenty of Head and Hair oil in stock or alternatively contact Spiezia for your nearest stockist. I purchased RAW cider vinegar from my local health food shop where I also was able buy a gentler shampoo. Spiezia are in the process of launching an organic ph neutral shampoo and conditioner which I will be trialling over the next few weeks.  I will keep you posted!

Sharing is caring  so please share away! And please keep me posted on your results!

Wishing all my wonderful clients a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

With the emphasis being on new beginnings I am pondering what new techniques I can acquire to enhance my treatments for 2015.

I am continuing to learn more about my own body and yoga seems to be playing a greater role in maintaining a sense of inner and outer balance. Loving my yoga foundation training which I am studying through the British Wheel of Yoga, learning more about the philosophy and deepening my practise which my body is thanking me for. Yoga has been such a blessing for me during 2014 helping me to overcome jet-lag, still an often over active mind and stretch and bend a sometimes sore and achy body. I have been recommending Rosie’s restorative class to all my clients and hope the yoga love keeps spreading.

I have a few ideas about new additions to my tool box which I will share as they unfold. It seems 2015 will continue to be a year of personal growth and expansion and heart openings.

Blessings to all!
All Love

Rain Drop Technique

Originally published: June 05 2014.

Training booked and my oils arrived in the post yesterday morning so needless to say I am very excited to be sharing the Raindrop Technique and look forward to witnessing the results.

Raindrop Technique
Raindrop is a revolutionary way to apply essential oils. The main oils used in raindrop therapy are high in antioxidants: Thyme (Thymus Vulgaris), Oregano (Origanum Compactum), Wintergreen (Gaultheria Procumbens), Cypress (Cupressus Sempervirens), Peppermint (Mentha Piperita), Basil (Ocimum Basilicum) Marjoram (Origanum Majorana), Valor and Aroma Seiz. The oils are applied to the feet using a Vita Flex technique, then dripped up the spine like raindrops and massaged in to the back. After the massage hot towels are placed over the back to open the pores in the skin allowing the pure oils to be absorbed into the bloodstream. Here they can start the healing work carrying oxygen into the deepest parts of the body, so that health can be restored. This treatment can take up to an hour, and continues to work for days after. Only Young Living Essential Oils can be used, due to the fact that they are the highest quality available in the world. This lovely treatment has had amazing life-changing effects on many people’s lives.

The raindrop technique involves the amazing power of young living essential oils designed by gary young. This treatment involves a range of massage movements up the spine and vitaflex (vitality through the reflexes). Hot towels are applied to support the absorption of the oils in to the body. The helps bring the body back into structural and electrical alignment. Often many typs of spinal problems and misalignments are caused by toxins that lie dormant within the spine. The use of essential oils helps to fight agains these viruses within the spine, helping the structure realign. The raindrop treatment can be used as a tool to provide a healthy balance to the body. Essential oils also stimulate the nerves and the regrowth of tissue.
Aromatherapy

Using Young Living Essential Oils for health vitality and healing, these oils are able to address a extremely wide variety of health conditions.

Vita Flex is a Tibetan healing methodology meaning “ vitality through the reflexes”. This specialized form of foot massage was pioneered by Stanley Burroughs, and is an effective way to apply essential oils to the body. Vita Flex makes use of the piezoelectric characteristics of the human body, where slight pressure induces voltages and currents in the body.

Loving New Zealand!

Originally published: March 14 2014.

Loving my trip to New Zealand and feeling very blessed to have this precious time with my hubby and most of all myself. It’s been wonderful to feel the hot summer sun on my skin once more and a treat to wear shorts late into the evening. I have loved my daily walks along Orewa beach and around the estuary and bus trips off to discover and explore new places. This sleepy Auckland suburb is incredibly friendly with heaps of cafés and good eateries bordering the beach front.

Before leaving the UK I had already consciously decided that I wanted to integrate into the Kiwi lifestyle and meet people, especially given the 3 month duration of Barnie’s contract. So after a quick search on the internet and supermarket notice board it didn’t take me long to discover a yoga class which is great and only a short stroll from our apartment. I absolutely love yoga and I have been attending a class 2 to 3 times a week so I’m feeling very bendy, flexible and chilled out.

A friend from Australia introduced me to Nia so I decided to look up a class and I’m so glad I did as not only is it great exercise but I’ve meet some wonderful people and experienced something new.

A lovely bit of synchronicity I discovered two great massage therapists right next door to the Nautilus, who have both trained with the same Lomi Lomi teacher so I’ve been able to share massage. How lucky am I? I’ve well and truly bedded in here and probably won’t want to leave in April.

My lovely hubby treated me to a South Island trip which was awesome where I revisited some of my favourite spots like Milford Sound. It was sad seeing the earth quake damage in Christchurch as it had such a pretty city center, but living on the shaky isles as New Zealand is known, comes with it’s dangers. My tour took me across steep mountain passes to the west coast, where I cruised the Milford Sound, flew back in a plane over snow caped mountains to Queenstown and to top it off I got to spend a few lovely days catching up with my younger brother and his partner. The South Island’s dramatic landscape wowed me as much if not more than it had 26 years ago, breath taking scenery that just got better and better. Good times!

The weeks seem to be flying by and with the end of my husbands contract now in sight we are beginning to plan our road trip north. This will take us to the most northerly point at Cape Reinga before returning to Auckland for our flight home on the 15th April.

I shall be sad to leave this beautiful country but equally happy to return to my home in Cornwall.

New Zealand here I come

Lava shell to the rescue

Lava shell to the rescue

Just returned from Lava Shell Rescue training in Oxfordshire which I thoroughly enjoyed.  Although I have been working with Stone Therapy for several years now and totally appreciate the use of hot and cold in my treatments finding it hugely beneficial not only for my client but also in maintaining my health and well being.  I was curious about Lava Shells natural, self heating system and  the ease and convenience of only having to carry a small amount of equipment  to and from clients. Rescue was my  obvious chose of signature treatments as it combined the deeply therapeutic effects of hot and the cold  therapy.

The 100 % natural Tiger Clam Shells used are a by product of the fishing industry in the Philippines they provide jobs for local communities who clean, polish and glue the shells together with a hole in the top.  Lava Shells unique heating system is made by combining a blend of food-grade minerals with water which creates a consistent, reliable, and powerful heat, without electricity that lasts for up to 1 hour. These simple, all natural ingredients create no harmful byproducts and are environmentally friendly too.
